Here you will find answers to some of the most common questions we receive. If you do not find the answer to your question below, please feel free to contact us!
Most of the artists on the site are happy to accept commission requests. Availability can change from time to time depending on the rest of the artist's workload. Feel free to inquire about any artist on the site for more details.
How long will my commission take to complete?
As a general
rule, commissions take roughly 12 to 16 weeks for delivery.
However, this can vary widely depending on the artist, and their
current workload. Publication deadlines must always take first
priority.
Are the artists willing to do more mature subject matter
(nudity, etc)?
Most artists we represent are fine with
commission requests involving tasteful nudity. This is a
personal decision for each artist as to the type of material that
they are comfortable drawing. Some artists are more than happy
accepting commission requests involving material that is more graphic
in nature, others are not. If you have a particular artist or
request in mind, feel free to contact us and we can let you know if
the artist in question would be willing to accept your request, or
which artists on the site might be best suited to your commission
idea.
I see that all commission prices are for 11" x 17"
commission requests. Are the artists willing to accept 9"
x 12" commissions? If so, how much are they?
Most
artists are happy to accept 9" x 12" commission
requests. As a general rule, 9" x 12" commission
requests are 70% of the stated prices for 11" x 17"
commissions.
I have created my own original characters, and I would like to
commission artwork featuring these original characters. Is this
possible?
Most artists are happy to draw your original
characters for you. These commissions are 20% more expensive
than standard commissions to account for the artist's unfamiliarity
with the characters. More often than not, this type of request
involves more work on the part of the artist.
I have my own creator-owned comic book, and I am looking for an
artist for this project. Do you have artists that are
willing/able to do sequential artwork aimed for publication?
Yes,
we do have artists that are interested in working on new projects for
general publication. Commission pricing is a bit different for
sequential panel pages (please inquire), and we would be happy to
discuss your project with you in hopes of pairing you up with the
right artist for your needs. Some artists are currently signed
to exclusive contracts with major publishers (Ed Benes, Shane Davis,
Jackson Herbert, Lan Medina), so they cannot accept work for
publication, but may still occasionally be available for panel page
commissions with the caveat that they are for private use only and
may not, under any circumstances, be published. It should also
be mentioned that commissioned work for publication entitles the
customer to use the artwork for the sole purpose of publication, and
that the actual artwork itself remains in the possession of the
artist. Separate arrangements can be made if you would like to
purchase the original artwork as well.
May I post my commissioned artwork on my personal website, in a
public art gallery (such as comicartfans.com), or elsewhere online?
While
you will own the original commissioned artwork, the artist retain the
rights to the images themselves. That being said, you should
feel free to post the artwork online provided that it is not overly
graphic in nature. While some artists might be willing to
accept requests of a more graphic nature, this type of material
should NOT be posted publicly, and is for private use
only. As a rule of thumb, anything that is not R-rated is
fine to share. If you are not uncertain about a particular
piece, feel free to ask us about it. Otherwise, when in doubt,
it would probably be better to err on the side of caution. Of
course, if the art is posted here in the artist's own gallery, then
you should feel free to post it in your own gallery. Also feel
free to link back to our site so others know where you got it!

How much is shipping?
Domestic shipping is $12 for
11" x 17" artwork, and $9 for 9" x 12"
artwork. Insurance is required, and is an additional $1.50 for
the first $100, $1 for each additional hundred or part thereof.
So, for example, if your purchase is $225, insurance would be an
additional $3.50.
International shipping is $25 for regular air mail or $40 for Global Express Mail. Insurance is not available on regular air mail, but is available with GEM. GEM is strongly recommended on all purchases over $300. GEM is trackable and requires a signature. There is no tracking on regular air mail, and we cannot be held responsible for any packages that are lost in transit when sent via regular air mail.
Do you combine shipping on multiple purchases?
YES!
We are more than happy to combine shipping on multiple website and/or
eBay purchases. Each additional item is $1 extra for shipping
(both domestic and international).
Can you hold my package to ship with future purchases so I can
continue to save on shipping costs?
Yes, this is fine as well.
We can hold packages indefinitely. We just ask that you pay the
initial shipping cost with your first purchase. From that point
on you can simply add $1 for each additional item purchased (plus
insurance).
How often do you list eBay auctions, and how can I find
them?
We try to list new eBay auctions each and every
week. Our eBay seller ID is "comiconart!!". All
auctions can be found HERE.
I would like to bid on future auctions and combine shipping
costs. How much time do I have to pay for my auctions?
We
are happy to hold packages indefinitely so that you can save as much as
possible on shipping costs. We just ask that you make payment on all
auctions within 10 days of auction end. If you would like to combine
shipping, simply include a note with your payment indicating, "Please
hold to ship with future purchase". You can also e-mail us
directly with this request. Just include the full shipping/insurance
cost with your first purchase, and we can send you adjusted invoices for
all future purchases. This way, we can pay the artists in a timely
fashion as well.
I am an artist seeking professional representation. How do I
join the ComiConArt family of artists?
We are always looking
for new talent to add to the site. Please feel free to contact us
if you are seeking representation, and we would be happy to look over
your work and discuss the possibilities.
