Q&A

How long have you been working in the industry?
I’ve been working as a comic artist since 2015.

When did you first become interested in art?
Since I was a kid, I’ve always been drawing. I studied animation in college but comics were always my main career goal.

When did you first become interested in comics?
I grew up on French bande dessinée and superhero cartoons but only got interested in American comics in college.

What made you choose this line of work?
I felt like comics was the best way for me to earn a living while drawing all day. I’ve also always been interested in storytelling, in written or visual form so the medium kind of made sense to me.

Which work are you most proud of?
Khiêm: Terres maternelles, which came out in November 2020 is my biggest and most personal work so far. Since the book was written by my sister and tells the story of my family, it holds a special place in my heart. Unfortunately, the book is only available in French right now. In the American market, I would probably say Glitterbomb is the work I’m most proud of. I feel like it’s the project where I really came into my own as an artist and working with Jim Zub was just a blast.

What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on my second book with Les Humanoïdes Associés which hasn’t been announced yet. I’m also working on Marvel projects here and there as well as various illustrations projects.

Which character(s) would you most like to work on in the future?
I’d love to work on Spiderman stuff since that was the defining character of my childhood.

Who are your biggest influences and inspirations?
Sean Murphy, John Paul Leon, Sergio Toppi, David Aja, Chris Samnee just to name a few.

What does a typical day look like for you?
It really depends on what I’m working on at the time but I usually spend half of my time on my Cintiq and half of my time on the drafting table.

What is your current approach to artwork (preferred media, etc)?
I currently do all my pencils and colors digitally but I keep inking traditionally. Not only does the final product look better, it gives me a good balance on and off the screen.

What was your first “big break” in comics?
Glitterbomb was my first book put out by a mainstream publisher.

A lot of our follower base are collectors – do you collect anything?
I wouldn’t call myself a collector but I do have a couple of artworks I’ve accumulated over the years, mostly from artists I know personally or have met at shows.

Is there anything else you would like to share with your fans?
I’m lucky to be able to work both in the US and French (and Quebec) comic market because that really gives me a wide verity of projects to work on and that is something I really value as an artist. Each new project is different from the previous one, in its genre, its length, its format, its visual style and that has been the most fertile ground for me to grow and learn as an artist.
