Q&A

How long have you been working in the industry?

20 years.

When did you first become interested in art?
As long as I can remember. My parents used to take me to the art museum and we’d take sketchbooks and pencils and kneaded erasers and sit in the museum and draw sculptures and paintings. My mom was in school so I think she was taking a drawing class and took us along on her assignments.

When did you first become interested in comics?
Right after Electra died in Daredevil. The end of Frank Miller’s run. Started reading then and worked my way backward to figure out what happened to her – and then been reading ever since.

What made you choose this line of work?
Only profession where you can write and draw – and have total control of the final piece.

Which work are you most proud of?
MIND MGMT. In the history of comics – only time someone has written, drawn, colored, lettered, designed, and did production a monthly comic book for 3 years in a row – by themselves.

What are you working on now?
A new series with Tyler Jenkins and a spy book that I’m writing and drawing. Spy Superb.

Who are your biggest influences and inspirations?
Jack Kirby, Edward Hopper, Phlip K. Dick, and Jack Kerouac.

What does a typical day look like for you? Coffee, email, write, write, write, draw/paint, board games, read, movies, sleep. Repeat.

What is your current approach to artwork (preferred media, etc)?
Water color and mixing in some oil painting lately.

Do you incorporate digital elements in your work?  If so – how?
Pencils usually. Sometimes ink. Never color.

What was your first “big break” in comics?
My first book. Pistolwhip with Top Shelf.

A lot of our follower base are collectors – do you collect anything?
Board games and books.

What are some of your hobbies?
